Casa Rosellino

Casa Rosellino:
The story and restoration of a place that welcomes the future

Did you know that our museum has a very special home? It’s called Casa Rosellino, and it’s much more than just a building: today it hosts the museum, but in the past it was a house, a shelter, and a laboratory where to generate ideas. Built in the 19th century and recently restored, it now welcomes children, families and visitors eager to explore, play and learn together with us.

A restoration that looks to the future

The building was restored as part of the Grande Progetto Pompei (Great Pompeii Project), with the aim repurposing it: to become a cultural and operational base for students, researchers and now also for the youngest visitors.

The project preserved the original features of the 19th-century structure, while harmonising later architectural additions. Where there was decay, there is now beauty. Where there was abandonment, there is now life.

A place designed to welcome

With its two-storey layout, courtyards, green areas and simple yet authentic architectural details, Casa Rosellino is now a welcoming, functional and accessible space — a place where culture becomes experience, connection, and play.

Today, Casa Rosellino is much more than a physical space: it’s the starting point of every experience at the Pompeii Children’s Museum.

We look forward to welcoming you here, where past and present meet to make room for the future.

At Casa Rosellino, you’ll find a refreshment point offering coffee and drinks, as well as our bookshop featuring books and curated items for children, including a range of exclusive Pompeii Children’s Museum merchandise.

Here, you can book a workshop or activity every day — for families or for children — to be held on site, in the garden or as part of an educational tour.
