Using the five senses to explore everything around us

A unique and engaging sensory experience that allows participants to explore the archaeological site of Pompeii through all five senses.

Each participant will receive a special kit. Through a blend of site exploration, thematic insights and practical activities, they will be invited to fully immerse themselves in the life and daily rhythms of the ancient Roman city.

Along the way, using the tools in their ‘explorer’s kit’, children will engage all five senses to explore their surroundings. By observing frescoes, mosaics and ancient objects unearthed during excavations, they will admire the beauty, vibrant colours and artistry of ancient Pompeii. Listening to the guide’s narration and the ambient sounds of the city, they will discover how amphitheatres were designed to ensure perfect acoustics, allowing everyone to hear performances and speeches. They will touch the surfaces of ruins and replicas of ancient artefacts, creating a tangible connection with history. They will smell the scents of the ancient city, from local plants to the aromas of food and spices. Finally, they will have the opportunity to discover some of the foods and drinks from Roman cuisine.
