Built on a cliff overlooking the sea, this is one of the most luxurious Roman villas of the early 1st century BC.
It is believed to have belonged to Poppea Sabina, second wife of Emperor Nero – hence the villa’s name.
A truly sumptuous residence, it featured vibrant frescoes, gardens with statues and fountains, a private bath complex, and a spectacular swimming pool over 60 metres long.
The villa was decorated with box hedges, oleanders, lemon trees, plane trees, olive trees, cypresses, roses, and climbing ivy.
Visiting it, one can feel the elegance and tranquillity of one of the most refined aristocratic homes of the Roman world – a place of luxury, silence and contemplation.
